The latest leg of the Mayo Sports Partnership Cycle for Fun series will take place in south Mayo on September 12. The event is being organised by Western Lakes Cycling Club, and is suitable for everybody, even if you haven’t been on a bike for years. The spin is a 20km cycle from Ballinrobe to Ashford Castle and back again.

Ballinrobe hosted round five of the club league last week, and a big crowd turned out for this hugely contested league. To date the racing has been very close with another bunch sprint. The 26 mile route from Ballinrobe via The Neale, Cross, Glencorrib, Ballyfruit, Shrule, Kilmaine finished outside the Cycling Centre back in Ballinrobe.

The licensee of Pat Cohan’s Pub, Cong — which is better known as the Quiet Man pub — was before Ballinrobe District Court last week for permitting people on the premises after closing time.
